● Remembering Rachel

📰 Rachel Corrie was a 23-year-old American peace activist from Olympia, Washington, who was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer, March 16th, 2003, while undertaking nonviolent direct action to protect the home of a local Palestinian (pharmacist, Dr. Samir Nasrallah and his) family from demolition.

Rachel Aliene Corrie (April 10, 1979 – March 16, 2003) was an American activist and diarist.

She was a student at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, and a member of the pro-Palestinian group, the ISM or International Solidarity Movement. She was killed by an IDF (Israel Defense Forces) armored bulldozer in a combat zone in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, under contested circumstances during the height of the second Palestinian intifada. By 2004, the Israel destruction of homes in Rafah left more than 1700 people homeless.

A strong compassionate voice of a courageous woman, she will always remain an inspiration to all concerned with peace and justice. The loss of her life, is the world's loss. It is our loss. We can only imagine what more she could've done, the influence she would've had, if she were still with us today.
